Croup. Crap.

Caleb has croup. Aren't they supposed to outgrow that by four??

Wednesday night we spent about 30 minutes out on the porch swing wrapped in a blanket because he woke up at 1:30 and couldn't breathe. We learned how to deal with croup after an unfortunate ER experience with Nikki when she was two, so we're pretty calm about it, but this was a particularly bad bout of it. After he could breathe again, we took him into bed with us and slept with the window open. The next day, he seemed fine. Thursday and Friday passed without any further symptoms other than some morning coughing.

This morning, however, he woke up and coughed something up into the toilet and didn't want to eat right away. We called my cousin to tell her we would be missing her kids' birthday party (she's also expecting her third next month and probably doesn't want to cough the baby out) and Caleb took a long nap. Nikki and I went up to see my mom and clean her house in preparation for her post-operative visitors (she's just too tired to do it all herself), but left Caleb here so my mom doesn't cough her incision open.

Right now, Caleb is coughing in his bed. He sounds worse. So we may be making a trip to urgent care tomorrow.

I'm sorry to hear about poor Caleb! I hope he is feeling better. Its horrible to have to listen to that cough and not be able to do anything about it! Give him a "get better" hug for me!!
